PREVENTION:
Usually, with gentle but thorough brushing and flossing, further recession can be prevented. If you are unfortunate enough to have very thin tissue, recession is often difficult to prevent. What is most important is that the underlying loss is stopped.

Q:
How long does the procedure take?
A:
Approximately 30-45 minutes.
Q:
Will I have pain?
A:
Most people experience soreness of the roof of the mouth for 7-10 days. A soft diet is recommended during this time. The tooth receiving the graft is pain free.
Q:
Will my insurance pay for this procedure?
A:
Most insurance companies recognize the benefit of this procedure so it usually is covered fairly well with 50-80%, depending upon your insurance plan. This is usually not considered a cosmetic procedure, but a necessary one for improved oral health.
Q:
Is this procedure painful during the healing period?
A:
We provide a non-drowsy pain reliever before we begin the procedure. A prescription for this as well as a strong pain reliever is given, just in case it is needed.
Q:
How long will the graft last?
A:
With gentle brushing and flossing the grafted area should remain stable on a long-term basis. Of course, this is normal tissue and will experience recession with rough brushing just like the original tissue.
